The nature and concept of time is a theme throughout my work. I have been fascinated by it since I was a child. Time is such an ambiguous and non-tangible thing that we engage with constantly. We see and feel the effects of it, yet it is something we cannot truly define or accurately measure. Two people standing in front of each other do not experience time at the same speed, and yet are able to engage with each other without an issue. A bee does not experience time the same as a whale, and a human staring at a wall doesn't experience time the same as a human playing soccer. We will never truly know what time is. Is it an effect of another mechanism? Is it a dimension of existence? We cannot be sure. However, we can be certain that one day it will end, and that is a terrifyingly beautiful idea.
The Icon is a combination of two alchemical signs. The first is Mercury, the alchemical symbol for death. The second is the time-sign that represents 24-hours. Combined together, we have a visual representation of the concept "mortem temporis".
Time is not eternal, regardless how endless it may seem. The eternity of time stems from the fact that we cannot grasp its nature, that we cannot understand it. We can rationalize it, we can do our best to measure it, but we have never understood it. If ever we achieve that end, we will have succeeded in bringing about its death.
Author of the award-winning novel Parasomnia, I create art in various forms. Currently, I am working on my second book, release date unknown. My hope is that you enjoy my work, and that you will tell others about it.
